Ingredients:

  • 1 lb green cabbage, thinly sliced/shredded
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions:

  1. Slice the cabbage into thin, uniform ribbons about 1/4 inch thick to ensure consistent caramelization.
  2. Heat the olive oil and butter in a 12-inch cast iron skillet or stainless steel pan over medium-high heat until the butter foams and smells nutty.
  3. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent and just beginning to turn golden. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Toss in the shredded cabbage and spread it across the pan. Let it sit undisturbed for 2-3 minutes to develop deep brown, caramelized edges.
  5. Stir and continue to sauté for another 5-7 minutes, adding salt and pepper, until the cabbage is tender-crisp.
  6. Drizzle apple cider vinegar over the top and stir once more to finish.
