This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Gist Recipe (gistrecipe.com) collects when you browse the site, send us a message or leave a rating or comment, how that information is used, who else may receive it, and what choices you have. We have tried to keep it specific and readable. If anything is unclear, contact us and we will explain.

We do not sell your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide to us

  • Contact form: if you write to us through the Contact Us page, we receive your name, email address and the message you type. We use this only to read your message and reply to you.
  • Recipe ratings and comments: if you rate or comment on a recipe, we receive your name and the text you submit. Comments are published on the recipe page, so please do not include anything you do not want other visitors to see, such as an email address, phone number or home address.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs: like most websites, our web server records standard technical data for each request: your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We use these logs for security and troubleshooting.
  • First-party visit statistics: we keep simple statistics on our own server, recording the page viewed and the referrer (the page or site that sent you to us). Raw visit records are kept for 7 days, after which only daily totals remain.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: set by the services described in the next section.

2. Cookies, Analytics and Advertising

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Some are needed for the site to work or stay secure; others are used for statistics and advertising. The services below may set or read cookies when you visit.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregated form, which pages are read and how visitors find the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to produce these statistics. We use the reports to improve the site, not to identify individual visitors.

Google AdSense

We show ads served by Google AdSense, which helps cover the cost of running the site. Google and its partners use cookies to serve and measure ads. Personalized ads are shown only with your consent. For visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a Google consent message appears so you can accept or decline personalized advertising.

Without consent, you may still see ads, but they are not personalized using your browsing history.

Cloudflare

We use Cloudflare for content delivery and security. Cloudflare helps the site load quickly and protects it from abusive traffic, and it may set technical cookies for these purposes.

Managing cookies

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking all cookies may affect parts of the site, such as security checks.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To answer your messages sent through the contact form.
  • To publish your ratings and comments on recipe pages.
  • To keep the site secure and working, including troubleshooting errors and spotting abusive traffic.
  • To understand how the site is used, through Google Analytics and our own first-party statistics, so we can improve recipes and navigation.
  • To show advertising through Google AdSense, personalized only where you have consented.
  • To meet legal obligations, for example responding to a valid legal request.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are your consent (personalized advertising, and analytics or advertising cookies where consent is required), our legitimate interests (site security, troubleshooting, basic statistics and running the site) and, for replying to you, taking steps at your request.

4. Who Receives Your Information

We share data only with the providers needed to run the site, each under its own privacy policy: Google (Analytics and AdSense) and Cloudflare (content delivery and security). Our social profiles on Pinterest are separate services; if you follow a link to them, Pinterest's own privacy policy applies. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the site and its visitors from fraud or abuse.

5. How Long We Keep Data

  • First-party visit records: raw records are kept for 7 days; after that only daily totals remain.
  • Contact messages: kept for as long as needed to answer you and handle any follow-up, then deleted.
  • Ratings and comments: kept while they remain published on the recipe page. You can ask us to edit or remove yours at any time.
  • Server logs: kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.
  • Google and Cloudflare data: retained according to their own policies and settings.

6. Your Rights in the EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy.
  • Rectification: have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
  • Erasure: ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances.
  • Restriction: ask us to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
  • Objection: object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • Portability: receive your data in a portable format in certain circumstances.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, for example by changing your choice in the Google consent message or by adjusting your ad settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew it.
  • Complain to your local data protection authority if you believe your data has been handled unlawfully.

To use any of these rights, send us a request through our contact page. We aim to respond within one month. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we may only be able to locate comments or messages if you tell us the name, email address or page you used.

7. California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act gives you the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and the categories of sources and recipients.
  • Access the specific personal information we hold about you.
  • Delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, including sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies set by Google AdSense can count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. You can opt out of personalized ads at adssettings.google.com and by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser. To make a request, use our contact page. We will respond within 45 days and may extend this once by a further 45 days where permitted. You may also use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf.

8. Children's Privacy

Gist Recipe is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form or a comment, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold, including the security services provided through Cloudflare. No method of transmission or storage on the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please avoid putting sensitive personal details in comments or messages.

11. Changes to This Policy
