Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 pint vanilla bean ice cream

Instructions:

  1. Peel and core the apples. Slice them into uniform wedges about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Toss the slices in a bowl with the lemon juice. Note: This prevents oxidation.
  3. Melt the butter in a large non stick skillet over medium heat until it begins to foam.
  4. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Cook the sugar mixture for about 1 minute until a bubbling syrup forms.
  6. Add the apple slices to the pan.
  7. Stir gently to coat every slice in the cinnamon glaze.
  8. Cook for 5–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the liquid is glossy.
  9. Place a scoop of vanilla ice cream into a bowl.
  10. Spoon the warm cinnamon apples immediately over the top.
