Ingredients:

  • 6 cups peeled and diced apples (mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp cold water

Instructions:

  1. Combine the diced apples and lemon juice in a large skillet or heavy-bottomed pot.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Turn the heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, for 8–10 minutes until apples become translucent and the liquid turns into a bubbling, amber-colored syrup.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth to create a slurry.
  5. Pour the cornstarch slurry into the bubbling apples. Stir constantly for 1–2 minutes until the sauce transforms from cloudy to a clear, glossy glaze.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract and remove from heat.
