Ingredients:
- 6 cups peeled and diced apples (mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp cold water
Instructions:
- Combine the diced apples and lemon juice in a large skillet or heavy-bottomed pot.
- Stir in the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Turn the heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, for 8–10 minutes until apples become translucent and the liquid turns into a bubbling, amber-colored syrup.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth to create a slurry.
- Pour the cornstarch slurry into the bubbling apples. Stir constantly for 1–2 minutes until the sauce transforms from cloudy to a clear, glossy glaze.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and remove from heat.
