Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (45g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups (360g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp (5ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
  • 3 tbsp (45ml) whole milk

Instructions:

  1. Beat the softened butter and cocoa powder together on medium speed until the mixture is uniform and looks like a smooth, dark paste.
  2. Slowly add the powdered sugar one cup at a time, alternating with the vanilla extract and salt. Start on low speed to avoid sugar clouds, then increase to medium-high until the frosting thickens.
  3. Add the milk one tablespoon at a time while beating on low. Stop adding liquid once the frosting reaches a spreadable, fluffy consistency that peaks slightly when lifting the beaters.
