Ingredients:
- 6 cups (1.4 kg) peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) lemon juice
- 1/2 cup (100 g) packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp (2 g) ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp (1 g) ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp (1.5 g) salt
- 2 tbsp (16 g) cornstarch
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) water
- 2 tbsp (28 g) unsalted butter
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into uniform 1/4-inch thick wedges. Immediately toss them in a bowl with the lemon juice to prevent oxidation.
- Melt the butter in a large heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until bubbling gently.
- Fold in the apple slices and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are barely tender but still hold their shape.
- Whisk cornstarch and water in a small bowl until smooth. Pour the slurry into the bubbling apples and stir constantly for 1–2 minutes until the sauce is glossy and thick.
