Ingredients:
- 6 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 pint vanilla bean ice cream
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch.
- Mix until every apple slice is coated in the spiced mixture.
- Pour the apple mixture into a 9x9 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and salt.
- Add the chilled, cubed butter. Using a pastry cutter or forks, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized lumps remaining.
- Scatter the crumble mixture over the apples without pressing down firmly.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40–45 minutes until the fruit juices bubble and the topping is deep golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let rest briefly before serving with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
