Ingredients:
- 6 lbs Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4 inch thick
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 1 tsp salt
- 1.5 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water or apple cider
Instructions:
- Place sliced apples into a large mixing bowl and pour lemon juice and salt over the fruit.
- Toss the apples thoroughly to ensure every slice is coated and let them sit for 15 minutes to macerate.
- In a saucepan, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cornstarch.
- Add approximately 1/4 cup of water or apple cider to the dry mixture to create a paste.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat for 3–5 minutes until the sugar dissolves into a thick, bubbling syrup.
- Pour the hot syrup over the macerated apples, toss to coat, and transfer to freezer-safe containers.
