Ingredients:

  • 6 lbs Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water or apple cider

Instructions:

  1. Place sliced apples into a large mixing bowl and pour lemon juice and salt over the fruit.
  2. Toss the apples thoroughly to ensure every slice is coated and let them sit for 15 minutes to macerate.
  3. In a saucepan, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cornstarch.
  4. Add approximately 1/4 cup of water or apple cider to the dry mixture to create a paste.
  5. Heat the mixture over medium heat for 3–5 minutes until the sugar dissolves into a thick, bubbling syrup.
  6. Pour the hot syrup over the macerated apples, toss to coat, and transfer to freezer-safe containers.
