Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (50g)
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Place butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Melt and continue cooking, whisking constantly, until the butter foams, crackles, and settles into a golden-brown hue with toasted brown bits at the bottom.
  2. Remove butter from heat immediately and pour into a large bowl. Let it cool for 5 minutes, then stir in the brown and granulated sugars until the mixture resembles wet sand.
  3. Whisk in the egg and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and slightly glossy.
  4. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt directly into the wet mixture. Fold the ingredients together with a spatula until no streaks of white flour remain, taking care not to overmix.
  5. Stir in the whole chocolate chips and the crushed chocolate chips.
  6. Line an 18x13 inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Press the dough evenly across the pan using a spatula.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 22–25 minutes.
