Ingredients:
- 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (200g) light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg (50g)
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
- 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
- 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
- Place butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Melt and continue cooking, whisking constantly, until the butter foams, crackles, and settles into a golden-brown hue with toasted brown bits at the bottom.
- Remove butter from heat immediately and pour into a large bowl. Let it cool for 5 minutes, then stir in the brown and granulated sugars until the mixture resembles wet sand.
- Whisk in the egg and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and slightly glossy.
- Add the flour, baking soda, and salt directly into the wet mixture. Fold the ingredients together with a spatula until no streaks of white flour remain, taking care not to overmix.
- Stir in the whole chocolate chips and the crushed chocolate chips.
- Line an 18x13 inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Press the dough evenly across the pan using a spatula.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 22–25 minutes.
