Ingredients:
- 3 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
Instructions:
- Place the unsalted butter in a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Melt and continue cooking, whisking occasionally, until the foam subsides and mahogany-colored bits form at the bottom with a nutty aroma. Remove from heat immediately.
- Stir the sea salt into the browned butter and set aside.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent oxidation.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the light brown sugar, cornstarch, all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg.
- Pour the dry spice and sweetener mixture over the apples and toss until every slice is evenly coated.
- Pour the browned butter, including all toasted bits, over the coated apples.
- Return the mixture to the skillet over medium-low heat and sauté until apples are tender and the sauce has reduced.
