Ingredients:

  • 4 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples (approx. 2 lbs / 900g), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Toss the apple slices in a large bowl with the lemon juice until lightly coated to preserve color and add acidity.
  2. Arrange the slices in a single layer in a 9x13 inch baking dish, slightly overlapping them like shingles.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and salt until the mixture is smooth and the sugar has partially dissolved.
  4. Pour the cinnamon glaze evenly over the arranged apple slices, using a brush or spoon to ensure all edges are coated.
  5. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes until the apples are tender and the glaze is bubbling and mahogany-colored.
