Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (180g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1.5 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (225g) unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 0.75 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • 1 tbsp (8g) ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp (3g) salt
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) milk
  • 0.5 tsp (2g) vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Stir in the rolled oats until evenly distributed.
  4. Fold in the melted butter, brown sugar, and applesauce. Mix with a rubber spatula until the batter is uniform and no streaks of flour remain.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with the back of a spoon.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes until the edges are golden-brown and the center feels set but springy.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the bars cool completely in the pan.
  8. Whisk the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla together until velvety, then drizzle over the cooled bars before slicing into 20 squares.
