Ingredients:

  • 6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced (approx. 3 lbs / 1.36 kg)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x9 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until evenly coated. Spread the mixture into the bottom of the baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, stir together the chopped pecans, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Stir the milk, melted butter, and egg into the dry ingredients until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour the batter carefully over the pecan layer, spreading it to the edges with a spatula.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
