Ingredients:
- 6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced (approx. 3 lbs / 1.36 kg)
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x9 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until evenly coated. Spread the mixture into the bottom of the baking dish.
- In a small bowl, stir together the chopped pecans, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir the milk, melted butter, and egg into the dry ingredients until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter carefully over the pecan layer, spreading it to the edges with a spatula.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
